Smelling the Orchids

November 19th, 2009 by Nanette

Dresdan3So when I left you Monday, I didn’t have anything to tell you about the day. I hinted at a quilt I was putting together. I realized it has been several years since I “quilted” anything large enough to wrap around one’s shoulders. It was rewarding the last few days working on this piece. It will be more rewarding when it is given to the recipient.

Yeah, I know I said no pictures…but its just a sneak peak. There’s a story behind this, but it can’t be publicly discussed until the recipient has it in hand.

My “Make Art Everyday” this week has revolved around this quilt. When I wasn’t working, I was stitching and basting and shopping for thread.

Yesterday, I also worked on my Peyote amulet bag (see earlier post). This bead work is quite time-consuming. I don’t know that I’ll make many Peyote beaded items.

Funky Felted FlowersToday, “real art” day. A friend of mine, Olivia, saw my funky flower pin cushions and wanted just the flowers. She has been encouraging me to make just flowers and put pinbacks on them. She took some of them to a show she did a couple weeks ago and sold them quickly for me. She is extremely excited about these flowers. I promised her I would make pins and put them on my Etsy store. I’ve added one to my store, more will be added over the course of the next few days.

I’m having fun with these funky flowers. Thanks Olivia for encouraging me. They remind me of orchids, but just don’t smell as sweet. Well, actually they smell sweeter, because I love the smell of wool.

You are inspiring me……great idea to set goals for daily stitching!
