Habitat for Humanity Treasures
So I was driving down the road today and passed our local Habitat for Humanity Store. I try
to avoid stopping, but sometimes I’m possessed. Well, boy did I find some deals. This pile of goodies cost me only $6. Zippers for only $0.25 – $0.50, I couldn’t pass them up. I have ideas of making little change purses from my quilted and felted fabric. Zippers cost about $2 a piece at Wal-mart. I’m motivated now to start making something.
What else did I find? A cool old wooden yard stick. Its not a very good one, but I’ve seen them used for picture framing, may even attach a piece to one of my quilts. How can you pass up $0.50?
Then my prize! Sheet music for Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass “Spanish Flea.” Ok, maybe you don’t know Herb. My dad was a big fan of his when I was a kid. I have to say his, I have good feelings when I hear his music. You’ll see a song or two on my play list. What will I do with this? I don’t know…use it in some piece of mixed media art. Or just read the words and hum along to the notes on the page. For “two-bits” (as dad would say), the memories are more valuable than the cost.
Sometimes you just have to buy something stupid, just because it strikes your fancy.

I haven’t been to the Habitat Store in awhile but over the last few years, I’ve picked up so many deals–such fun! Probably my favorite deal(s) are my two flat top desks I bought for 15.00 each
Congrats on your treasures!

How COOL! “Spanish Flea” was one of the first pieces I learned by ear, eons ago when I picked up my older step brother’s trumpet… I was hooked! I ended up being given his ‘student’ model horn, and after 4th grade played through high school (marching, concert and jazz band); and for another 12 -15 years at The Slvation Army — *whew!* I haven’t thought of that in AGES!
Congrats on your most thrifty finds — and thanks for the memories
