Blank Canvas Art Quilting
Well, I’m getting excited. Last fall I was asked to write an article for a new E-zine called Fibre&Stitch. I’m in the process of mailing the article to the publisher right now. Hopefully, the clunky thing goes through the Internet pipe-line without a hitch.
I feel as though I just put my foot across a threshold of a new adventure. Some of you already now that I freelance as a technical editor for a major publishing company. I’ve been helping others write for years and now I’m finally taking the step on my own. Of course I have a million ideas, I hope I can convince myself to at least complete a couple hundred of them.
Just to give you a sneak peak, I’ve included a picture of the finished project that I
submitted. It is a mini-art quilt that I made using Setacolor transparent paints. The title of the article is “Blank Canvas Art Quilts Using Solar Painting Techniques.” The article is due for the May publication of the zine. I had fun working on this project. I now, also, have a bunch of fabric ready for some other ideas.
Yes, if you look closely, I did use grommets in the quilt. I like the effect, but I think I need to get a super heavy duty grommet tool if I plan to continue doing this. The cheap grommet setting tool I bought at Lowe’s hardware isn’t holding up to the pounding I have to do to get the grommets through so many layers of fiber.
I’ll keep you posted on how things are going. Enjoy!
